Emily & The Complexes cover

Emily & the Complexes Premiere Jersey City Blues

If your summertime blues need a supplement, indie rockers Emily & the Complexes have just what you’re looking for. A smooth collision between blues and 90s alt rock, aptly titled “Jersey City Blues” is the most recent song premiere from Dirty Southern Love, the band’s forthcoming endeavor.

Driven by drums and distinctively southern guitar riffs, the song features no startlingly dynamic changes in melody, tempo, or tone, but this pleasant predictability even further helps the song achieve its purpose. The blasé lyrics mirror the sound, with frontman Tyler Verhagen’s croons effortlessly elevating the song from indifferent to outright lackadaisical. “Jersey City Blues” is a charming ode to lethargic discontent that, while not curing your blues, will at least leave you satisfied that you’re not the only bummed out person desperate for a better place.

Head to American Songwriter to listen for yourself and pick up Dirty Southern Love, out August 19th digitally and on 7” vinyl.
