This week Seth Augustus released a second MP3, “Tiny Little Head” from his forthcoming album. After haunting the outer-lands of San Francisco’s music world for the better part of two decades, Seth Augustus has emerged with a fully realized sound and debut CD, To the Pouring Rain (Porto Franco), to be released February 16, 2010. On the album, primitive textures and rhythms, Seth’s sinister-electrified guitar and gravely, bluesy voice mingle with the rhythms of early American folk and jazz, the cadences of carnival sounds and more than a little 60s-era Captain Beefheart. Seth collaborated with mentor Paul Pena (legendary blues player who was the subject of Oscar-nominated Ghengis Blues), studied throat singing and ethnic instrumentation in Tuva, and learned from musicians he met on travels to Mali.
Seth’s label, Porto Franco, was recently profiled in the San Francisco Chronicle. Read the article here.
