Guts Club's Exclusive Cover (Via Voicemail) of "The Wanderer" For Weird Deer

This eerie and lovely bit of Americana comes through the filter of Lindsey Baker, a/k/a Guts Club.

The album The Arm Wrestling Tournament, a reflection on torture-murder and other themes, is available now.

Bullett Has the Scoop on Guts Club's Favorite Incredible Hulk Moments!

What began as a video project of collaged, absurdist found footage, has manifested in Lindsey Baker’s Guts Club. The guts of the club are jittery visual trips, with animals, me with guns, bags of money and other things super imposed over girls in bikinis, road tripping humans, and babies.

Baker’s full length The Arm Wrestling Tournament is a sparse but vivid folk jaunt, recorded in the Catskills, but sounding nothing like the woods, a mountain, or a scene from Over the Top–though her father was a true fan of competitive arm wrestling.

Tomorrow night Baker will perform live tomorrow at the Bell House in Brooklyn, NY, in a multimedia pastiche of all things uncomfortably numb.

When asked what shaped her fleshy aesthetic, she of course pointed to the gamma ray induced parables of the Incredible Hulk television show, and listed off her five favorite Bruce … I mean David Banner moments for us.

Paste Had Some Great Things to Say About Guts Club's 'The Arm Wrestling Tournament'

Baker’s songs sometimes play like the unfiltered id of someone hiding in your closet and watching through a crack in the door as you get ready for bed: she means you no intentional harm, but there’s no telling what she might do next.

Tiny Mix Tapes is Exclusively Streaming Guts Club's 'The Arm Wrestling Tournament' in Full!

Questions pebble the rocky beach of Guts Club’s debut album,The Arm Wrestling Tournament. Lindsey Baker wanders this beach with a very apropos, steamy-salty wind blowing her hair in a buncha directions. Her eyes hide behind motherfuckin’ black sunglasses, and she’s wearing a Lynyrd’s Skin Yard t-shirt with the sleeves cut off. People watch from a safe distance; they know Baker as a former child beauty pageant star turned troubadour/arm wrestling champion. Baker carries a guitar the way Robert Frost carried a hatchet: as a tool through which tension and rage can be released. Her simple, emotional delivery reminds me more of Don Carpenter than Frost though. A combination of childlike observations and desires with more cynical, vulgar scenes. Baker the nomad rides across the American countryside, melting hearts and smashing cheekbones along the way.

WATCH A WEIRD COMBINATION OF BABIES AND ANIMATED PONIES IN THE NEW GUTS CLUB VIDEO

It’s hard to tell what’s more disturbing in the latest Guts Club video for “All of the Babies”. Is it the creepy amount of infants sitting on a sofa or the almost phallic milk bottles and epileptic horses surrounding them?

The video and song come from the mind of Lindsey Baker who performs solo acoustic pop under the Guts Club moniker. Following on from her video for “Weird Boat” it seems Baker takes slightly weird but familiar grainy home video footage then draws illustration/animation around them. The result is a DIY crafty/America’s Funniest Home Videos vibe thrown in with some early 2000s anti-folk.

Ahead of the release of her forthcoming debut album, The Arm Wrestling Tournament we tried to find out more about Lindsey’s fascination with babies and horses.

Video Premiere: Guts Club – “Weird Boat”

Guts Club is the moniker of one Lindsey Baker, who started the project as a series of DIY videos set to vaguely morbid, but tongue-in-cheek sore-throat pop. Today we’ve got the premiere of one of those videos for the song Weird Boat. The finger-plucked, very Daniel Johnston-esque track is visualized by grainy, summer camp footage wrapped in shivering esophagal animation.

All this will culminate in the release of Guts Club’s debut LP, The Arm Wrestling Tournament, this February.

Guts Club – “André Loves ELO”

Lindsey Baker is the driving force behind new project Guts Club. On February 10th, Guts Club will release The Arm Wrestling Tournament, which we can only expect is made up of somber, bedroom recordings that sound like what would happen if Dirty Beaches made a tour stop in Bradford Cox‘s bedroom. It’s eerie and tragic. The Arm Wrestling Tournament will be released by Important Records on February 10, 2015. Baker has shared a video of the non-album track “André Loves ELO”, which features André The Giant choking out Hulk Hogan in slow motion for its duration.
