Currently Spinning: Orchestra of Spheres

By this point you must know how Team Clermont feels about bands with serious jam chops. Hint: we freakin’ love them. Enter New Zealand’s (yes, they have the awesome accents to boot) Orchestra of Spheres, a band with a name that perfectly describes them even if you can’t articulate exactly why. The fuzzy, Hendrix-y feedback and wah-wah of ‘Journey’ creates the vibe of an alternate-reality Woodstock, supplied with weirder rhythms and way more dissonance. ’2000000 Years’ is a jam freakout of epic proportions, featuring frantic, off-kilter synths. Both tunes exhibit the band’s strong suits – eerie, catchy chanted lyrics that shift seamlessly into Raconteurs-esque guitar work and Tommy James/Shondells-esque keyboard interludes. In other words, they’re pretty adept at creating classic 60s psych-rock for the tech age. Flight of the Conchords ain’t got nothing on the Spheres.
