"Ontario"

From the heart of Detroit, Woodward Avenue extends some twenty miles to the northwest to the find its terminus in the outlying grid-point of Pontiac. Within or immediately surrounding that stretching locality one can find the diverse and complex land that birthed the musical project now known as Frontier Ruckus. Born at the crux of affluent suburban kingdoms, trailer park lanes, and the asphalt weeds of rundown areas, Matthew Milia began writing songs of the confused but somehow holy landscape he had processed throughout the span of a young lifetime. He found an artistic partner in David Winston Jones, and while at separate Michigan Universities, they recuited the two other members who now flesh out the band’s modern formation: Zachary Nichols playing trumpet, singing saw, melodic, alto horn and euphonium, and Ryan Etzcorn on percussion. Upon the graduation of every member, Frontier Ruckus began a continual cycle of touring the United States accompanied by the production of new songs and mythologies derived out of the expansion of their experience. Their songs, initially the projection of a very specific locality, have now reached and invited new inhabitants to that precise world from Michigan to Europe, where they return to tour this summer. With great momentum and increasingly prominent benchmarks visible in Frontier Ruckus’ near future, the trajectory of their art throttles forward with the same mechanics it has always known—the process of making sense of one’s unbelievably wondrous existence and surroundings through unbridled imagination.
