Five years since the release of The Foxymorons ’ well-regarded Hesitation Eyes album, the Texas/Tennessee co-conspirators turn in their 4th long-player titled Bible Stories, an erudite and giddy collection of pop songs recorded over the freezing winter months in a creaky basement in Nashville, Tennessee. The songs revel in a certain scruffy, underdog status while emoting about “teenage typing queens” and the meditative virtues of gardening.
The band’s story began in the sun-baked suburb of Mesquite, Texas way back in the mid 90’s. High school friends, David Dewese and Jerry James, stumbled upon an abandoned drum kit in a Sunday School classroom while home on college holiday and a surreptitious recording entity was born.
Not content to sit on their hands during downtime, Dewese & James started their own boutique clothing line, American Viceroy.
Characterized by infrequent live shows and a cross-country line-up (not to mention its members’ various creative pursuits), the band is proud to present its brand new long-player: Bible Stories.
PRAISE FOR THE FOXYMORONS
Paste: “…effortlessly graceful songwriting chops…conflating winning melodies with an indie rocker’s relaxed delivery.”
All Music Guide: “…an eclectically gorgeous (and seemingly effortless) brand of guitar pop that calls to mind tuneful 90’s prodigies like Guided By Voices, Pavement and Wilco…”
SPIN Online: “…combines the catchiness of Summerteeth-era Wilco and the sweetness of Evan Dando’s [of the Lemonheads] vocals.”
