Ancient Whales

Vestiges of Tails Appear in All of Us
(Owlphabet Records)
Release Date: April 24, 2020

A band that thrived in the underground house show scene, and became a favorite at festivals, playing garage rock with psychedelic undertones, punk tendencies and pop melodies, Ancient Whales are a combo based in the southeast of glorious noise and huge, melodic riff rock that’s sure to get under your skin in the best sort of way.

Vestiges of Tails Appear in All of Us is the latest Ancient Whales collaboration between Enoch Bledsoe (Twin Tigers, Firework Child, Puddin’ Tang, Just Me Records), Natalie Bledsoe and Oakley Munson (Black Lips, The Witnesses, The Rondelles, The Shine Brothers, Puddin’ Tang) recorded in Asheville, NC, by Ryan J Rapsys.

Songwriters Enoch and Natalie seek to explore the intricacies of existence and the nature of human beings in an honest, simple and accessible way. The Ancient Whales approach is to ask, “What would this look like if it were simple?” The songs deconstruct social conventions and illuminate basic human values all the while beckoning the listener to forget their worries, have fun and sing along. In today’s culture of hate, Ancient Whales just want to spread a little love!

Over the past 10 years, the band has hosted a revolving cast of gifted musicians such as Bryan Poole (Of Montreal, The Late B.P. Helium) and Shaun Ringsmuth (Street Sects), and have been featured on Athen’s Popfest, Athfest, Chattanooga’s Do Ya Hear We fest, and Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim show Bloodfeast. England’s The Mad Mackerel has included Ancient Whales on its “Best of the Month” and “Feel Bad for You Choice Cuts” mixes.

In between recording sessions and mountainous escapades, the band has played countless shows at all of the Asheville, Athens, and Chattanooga classic music venues and basements, sharing the stage with such talents asThe Nude Party, Caroline Rose, Axxa/Abraxas, Babe Rainbow, The Shine Brothers, The Humms, Greg Cartwright of Reigning Sound, Anwar Sadat, Allah-Las, Mr. Elevator and The Brain Hotel, Ghost Wolves, DJ Jared Swilley (of Black Lips), Thelma and the Sleaze and many more. Ancient Whales is currently rocking the Miami and sunny South Florida music scene.
