Heron is a four-piece musical collaborative from the heart of the Pennsylvania Wilds. Comprised of two guitars, bass, and drums, their bottomless sound is innovative, compelling, and cinematic. In their upcoming second full-length record members Ben Blick (guitar), Boyd Lewis (guitar), Eric Morelli (bass), and Nate Blick (drums) have crafted a seamless musical narrative, leaving behind the sweeping instrumental ballads of their 2017 debut, and clawing their way into a sound that is at once dark and visceral, spacious and lovely. The single, ‘Splashdown’, makes up a weighty piece of the this project’s breadth and beauty.

Recorded live at Buffalo’s GCR Audio, mixed by the almighty Matt Bayles, and mastered by renowned Abbey Road Studios’ Frank Arkwright, the new project is a high watermark of composition and musical craftsmanship for the band. Its cohesion spans the story of human experience: darkness and light, harmony and dissonance, breaking away and coming home. At the heart of it is ‘Splashdown’, thick with resonance and melody, pulsing out the sound of pure resolve and transcendence in bright, unbroken tones.

Two years ago, Heron burned a path across the sky with the debut of their first full-length album, You Are Here Now. “Of all the promising new bands to emerge in the past several months, Heron may have the most exciting potential, possessing a rare kind of chemistry that can’t be manufactured…” wrote music blogger David Zeidler, calling the project, “An invigorating masterwork.” The record’s transcendent track, “Shores” has been featured on NPR’s Morning Edition and Spotify’s Deep Focus playlist. Its inflammatory counterpart, “Ender” is a musical alumnus of NPR’s All Things Considered, and the introspective “Archives” landed a leading role in Headlights: A Ride BMX Film. The band was voted one of the Post-Rock Listener’s Choice “10 Best New Acts of 2017,” and You Are Here Now hailed among its “50 Best Releases of 2017.”

The Heron collective experiments with sound and creates musical landscapes in the Pennsylvania Wilds while also running marathons, small businesses, and whitewater rivers; honing surprisingly varied independent musical projects; tumbling around with six children and two large dogs; and avidly pursuing the natural beauty of the area where they grew up. The sonic experience of their music draws deeply on these themes of nature and human connection, wedding raw sound with atmospheric fervor and infusing it with smoldering energy and stellar musicianship. “Heron is a band that is comfortable coloring outside the lines and establishing their own unique template,” Zeidler wrote in 2017. With this Spring’s delivery of ‘Splashdown’, and the planned launch of their sophomore full-length to come later this year, Heron has done just that.
