Recently, Califone performed “Funeral Singers” from their album All My Friends Are Funeral Singers at San Fransico’s Great American Music Hall for Pitchfork TV. In addition to getting rave reviews for their October 09’ release, their feature film has been accepted to Sundance. The film, also titled All My Friends Are Funeral Singers, is being shown tonight in Park City, Utah. In addition the band will be performing from last year’s release. Touring since October, the band isn’t slowing down any time soon! In addition to Sundance, the band will be touring with Wilco on their Trans-Canada tour.

2010 is going to be a big year for the Austin-based group, Balmorhea. They’re following up their last two critically-acclaimed full-lengths with a new LP, Constellations, which will be out on February 23, 2010 via Western Vinyl. Upon the album’s release, Balmorhea will join the Danish group Efterklang on a North American tour before returning home for a string of shows at SXSW.
Constellations is a solemn meditation on the mystical and metaphysical, often giving the listener a sense of being tossed about on the ocean, at the mercy of a reckless and merciless god. The album ultimately hopes to provide a euphoric release for listeners as they realize that fate relies more upon the teasing whims of the unknown than any design of our own.

“The Heligoats’ Chris Otepka writes songs that are brainy in the best way: clever without straining for cuteness, wry but never smug. Ideas flow out of him in a barrage, which means that a song about science — like “I’m Pretty Sure I Can See Molecules,” by his ludicrously underappreciated former band Troubled Hubble — ultimately unfurls into a knockout commentary on what we’re made of, what our lives mean, and how the two notions intersect.”

“In the hands of other musicians, “Bewilder” might have sounded too calculating, too exacting, but Lachica evokes just the right mélange of hushed brittleness and frost-bitten pathos.” – Kyle Lemmon, Under The Radar

Rafter’s new album Animal Feelings will come out on April 13th on Asthmatic Kitty! It’s his 4th album for the label, and it comes on the heels of the pop filled EP Sweaty Magic. Animal Feelings delivers the pop/R&B goods, and is worthy of getting thrown on the PA at the next after party you head to.
For those of you not familiar with Rafter, he’s a San Diego native that has worked the boards for artists like Black Heart Procession, Tristeza, Rocket from the Crypt, Shaky Hands, Fiery Furnaces, and label-mates Castanets, Sufjan Stevens and DM Stith.
