On The Scene! Loney Dear Visits KEXP!

What a year it has been for Loney Dear (a.k.a. Emil Svanängen)! His 2009 release Dear John made it all the way to #7 on the CMJ charts in the Spring. He has been touring alongside Andrew Bird (making a stop to put on an amazing performance at Team Clermont’s SXSW Showcase in March), and has found success pretty much everywhere he’s gone!

This week, Loney Dear dropped by KEXP for an in-studio performance/interview with Cheryl Waters. The whole session is available via NPR by clicking here.

Helado Negro Cropper

Can it be August yet?

Leave it to Brooklyn’s Roberto C. Lange, a.k.a. Helado Negro, to fill up the Internet with good stuff.

First, check out his simple-yet-spastic video for “Dahum.”

Then, play the “Monday-Friday” mixtape he made with Yeasayer drummer Jaytram while you’re at work.

After that, follow TuiteroRoto (“broken tweeter”), his new exclusive-to-Twitter mini-album. Every song’s under 30 seconds long!

Helado Negro‘s debut album, Awe Owe, doesn’t even come out until August 8th! At least we have all this to keep us busy while we wait.

Getting to know... The Watermarks!

Texas trio The Watermarks are no strangers to sound – the guys have done audio engineering for MTV and The Fashion Network. Their new album, Thoughts Like Bombs, is full of fuzzy guitars, thumping basslines, and layers upon layers of synthy goodness. We dig it!

Houston’s Free Press Summer Fest is a-comin’, and we’re really happy The Watermarks are part of the 2-day extravaganza. There’ll be over fifty other bands (of Montreal, Broken Social Scene, Explosions in the Sky, and Voxtrot are just a few of them), a craft beer garden, water gun/balloon battles, and more. Hooray!

Arctic Monkeys In The News!

Arctic Monkeys’ third album, Humbug, will be in stores in the States on August 24th, coming out on the incredibly hot Domino Records! The album was produced in parts by Josh Homme of Queens Of The Stone Age and James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco. They’ll be hitting the road in the US and Canada before fore the release date, starting things off at the All Points West Festival, then back to Europe, and THEN a return trip to North America!

Here are the US tour dates:

08-01 Jersey City, NJ – All Points West Festival
08-02 Montreal, Quebec – Osheaga Music & Arts Festival
08-03 New York, NY – Highline Ballroom
08-05 Boston, MA – Paradise
08-07 Chicago, IL – Metro
08-08 Chicago, IL – Lollapalooza Festival
09-14 San Diego, CA – Soma
09-15 Los Angeles, CA – Hollywood Palladium
09-16 Oakland, CA – Fox Theater
09-18 Portland, OR – Wonder Ballroom
09-19 Seattle, WA – The Showbox
09-20 Vancouver, British Columbia – Malkin Bowl
09-22 Salt Lake City, UT – In the Venue
09-23 Denver, CO – Ogden Theatre
09-25 Minneapolis, MN – First Avenue
09-26 Milwaukee, WI – First Avenue

The Ginger Envelope Touring In Support of "Invitation Air"

Over three long winter nights, The Ginger Envelope holed-up in a cozy basement in Athens and recorded what would be the bulk of their second album, titled Invitation Air. Recorded to sixteen-track analog tape in a rather quaint and intimate setting, Invitation Air is a warm and expansive collection of strong sentiments, dusty imagery and subtle intricacies. With guest appearances from friends Page Campbell (Hope for a Golden Summer), world acclaimed fiddle player David Blackmon, and others that lend their talents and camaraderie, this lovely album is perfect for long summer evenings.

Catch The Ginger Envelope on tour with fellow Athenian Madeline at any of the following dates:

07.11•The Cake Shop w/Madeline and the White Flag Band (New York, NY)
07.12•House Party w/Madeline and the White Flag Band (Pittsburgh, PA)
07.13•House Party w/Madeline and the White Flag Band (Columbus, OH)
07.15•Uncle Fester’s w/Madeline and the White Flag Band (Bloomington, IN)

Sufjan in the news!

There have been a few Sufjan Stevens related announcements over the past week. First, Asthmatic Kitty announced that the quartet Osso, who played on Illinois and My Brightest Diamond‘s Bring Me The Workhorse, will be releasing a re-arranged version of Sufjan’s 2001 album Enjoy Your Rabbit. The Osso version will be called Run Rabbit Run and is slated to come out on October 6th on Asthmatic Kitty Records.

Then came news that Sufjan will be playing at Pop Montreal festival, which is September 30th-October 4th. Other acts that have been confirmed thus far include Dinosaur Jr, Faust, Os Mutantes, Destroyer and more. A couple weeks prior to that he will also be peforming at the Flaming Lips curated ATP in Monticello, NY. That festival will include performances by Akron/Family, Circulatory System, The Low Lows, Super Furry Animals, Animal Collective, The Jesus Lizard, The Feelies, Dirty Three, Suicide, Atlas Sound and many more!
