Marcio Local

Marcio Local's Adventures In Samba Soul!

Marcio Local’s new album “says Don Day Don Dree Don Don: Adventures In Samba Soul” (whew!) dropped on May 12th, and it’s a fantastic fusion of samba and soul. It’s drawing many comparisons to Brazilian legend Jorge Ben Jor (or Benjor for short), and Seu Jorge’s more recent work. Popmatters recently gave the album a 7/10, and the good reviews are piling up all over the place.

On top of all that, it’s getting to be summertime, and this is the PERFECT record to throw on while going to the diving hole, BBQing, sitting in the hammock or any of those other things that you do in the summertime!

Check out The Tripwire ‘s video feature for “Soul Do Samba”:

Music Lovers - stairs

Get To Know The Music Lovers!

San Francisco based six piece The Music Lovers have created their own brand of sophisticated mod pop, honing their skills since their first live show back in 2002. The band, haling from all corners of the globe, have endured several line up changes but have never lost that great spark that yields toe-tapping melodies and singalong vocals. With their third LP Masculine, Feminine the band continues to shine with track after track of catchy pop goodness! Not too long ago, Baltimore based blog PensEyeView had the chance to speak with Matthew Edwards, one of the bands founders about all things TML. The very intriguing interview can be read here. .

Casper & The Cookies Have New Tour Dates!

Casper & The Cookies have played a lot of shows over the past few years (check out 2007!), acted as the backing band for Daniel Johnston at Athens PopFest 2007, embarked upon two Japanese tours, and have shared the stage with bands like Apples In Stereo, Elikbass, Black Kids, M Coast, Architecture In Helsinki, The Blow, Deerhoof, Islands, Half-Handed Cloud and so many more. And the reason I’m bringing all of this up? Well, Casper & The Cookies have announced a new string of US tour dates! James Blackshaw - 1

Check out James Blackshaw's new song "Cross"!

You never hear people speak of getting their face melted off because of an acoustic guitar. The pleasant tones of a 12 string just don’t bring that picture to mind. If there was a phrase that was the equivalent to face melting for acoustic guitar playing, we would already be using it to describe James Blackshaw. His brand new release The Glass Bead Game, due out on May 26th, will be his first on Young God Records. Blackshaw will be playing a few scattered shows across North America this summer, so keep your eyes open to get a chance to witness this virtuoso’s true genius!

For a taste of James Blackshaw, check out the video posted below, and don’t forget to grab the song “Cross” from his brand new record!

Yonlu - zip up

Yonlu Continues To Amaze Listeners!

Yonlu’s “A Society In Which No Tear Is Shed Is Inconceivably Mediocre” continues to win the hearts of fans across the globe with its beautifully written melodies and haunting lyrics. More and more, people are learning the tragic tale of Vinicius Gageiro Marques, and the music he wrote. It’s quite astonishing to hear such mature, deep words from a 16 year old boy.

We’ve made available a clean edited version of the record’s first track “I Know What It’s Like” for your spinning and listening enjoyment.

Cryptacize "Blue Tears" Video

Cryptacize’s new album, Mythomania, came out on Asthmatic Kitty on the 21st, and since then has received critical praise from The New York Times and Pitchfork.

They also shot a video for “Blue Tears”, featuring singer Nedelle Torrisi as an escaped patient, being pursued by guitarist/singer Chris Cohen (ex-Deerhoof) and drummer Michael Carreira. The chase starts in a warehouse complex and eventually leads onto a boat (proudly displaying the American flag). The video was directed by Weston Currie , who also directed videos for Abe Vigoda and Desolation Wilderness.
