There’s a fantastic blog based out of Athens called Soundies, and they’ve been walking around town with a video camera, following local and national bands, filming take-away shows around town, a la Blogotheque. Most recently they captured Philadelphia-based Pattern Is Movement when they were here in Athens.
The two videos before are performances of two of my personal favorite songs from PIM’s most recent album, All Together. Watch them in all their bearded glory!
Last night I had a dream that my boyfriend was hiring prostitutes for himself on a regular basis. Though it was only a dream, I was still mad as hell at him when I woke up. It was so strange, as we got in the car to go to work, I was STILL peeved. I put on Venice is Sinking’s sophomore album AZAR on the car stereo and something really strange happened. I was overwhelmed with the desire to forgive him! Even though he had been a total butt-head in my dream, AZAR gave me the strength to stop being crazy and just love my boy again. See, I realized if I were a total nut job, this is the record I’d be listening to if we broke up. It’s full of weird lyrics, sad violas, hopeful trumpets, all the good stuff on I would put on mixtapes I made for boys to tell them (well, hint to them) that I was totally in love with them and really really sad cuz they weren’t gay. To give you a taste of this feeling, check out the hunk of melodrama that is “Ryan’s Song.”
Though it will not be officially released until March 31st (via One Percent Press ) the band will be having a CD release show this Friday at the fabulous 40 Watt in Athens, GA. Everyone who attends will receive a free copy of the new album with the price of admission. Rad, right?
Following their 2006 debut release “Mend”, Scotland’s De Rosa has put the finishing touches on their sophomore release titled “Prevention”, due out on March 3rd. For “Prevention”, the band has teamed up once again with producer Andy Miller (Arab Strap, Mogwai, Sons and Daughters) to recapture the magic. The new record hits shelves less than a month after fellow Chemikal Underground lablemate/Arab Strap frontman Aidan Moffat and the Best Ofs‘ release “How To Get To Heaven Form Scotland”. De Rosa is departing on a European tour in the middle of March to support “Prevention”.

The mysterious Fol Chen has seemingly been popping up every over the past couple of weeks, and the reviews for Part I: John Shade, Your Fortune’s Made have been pouring in. Most recently, Fol Chen was featured on NPR’s Fresh Air. Of course, NPR pointed out the literary side of the band, noting that John Shade was the name of the poet in Nabokov’s 1962 novel Pale Fire. You’re welcome, trivia buffs. And, NPR didn’t stop there to show their love of Fol Chen. Be sure to read the Second Stage story from last year as well!
Canada. The nation that brought us the joys of poutine, eagerly polite people, and the delightful antics of the hit television show Due South, now brings us the dark and bubbly Spiral Beach. The band’s new video for “Made of Stone” showcases lots of feathers, crazy dance parties, sparklers, stop-motion animation, tons of make-up, Madchester looking get-ups, and, duh, CANADIANS! The song’s pretty rad too! check it out here below!
